“Equinox” is a piece written by Uri Brener that has different ways of it`s performing setup.
The acoustic solo version is actually just a hint of what is concealed within a seemingly simple melodic line.
The piece was written as a kind of mega-canon, taking into consideration the harmonic ramifications of that particular melodic line, as uncovered by its exact repetition with a fixed one-bar step.
Thus the additional acoustic version of the piece features four and up to ten Cellos playing the same melody with a one-bar delay.
This creates a natural-acoustic equivalent of an electronic delay.
However, the piece is also suited for performance by a single player using an amplification system with the given electronic delay-step.
Since in such setup the de-synchronization is likely to occur between the exact performance tempo and the delay tempo, an element of unpredictability and an aleatoric texture is thus introduced.
Nevertheless, it does not destroy the main harmonic environment of the piece; rather, it contributes to the sense of flow that is one of the main features of the particular vertical-linear relationship found in the piece.

The piece is dedicated to its first performer – award winning Canadian cellist Rachel Mercer,
who has recorded it on her solo album “Room 2” recorded in 2008 by the Ent-T recording company.
